Hi, I'm Sarah. I live in the UK and I have hypermobility syndrome and fibromyalgia, plus a myriad of assorted conditions like asthma, IBS, a weak bladder, anxiety and depression.
I'm in my 40s and married to a wonderful Hubby. No kids, no pets. I've had joint and stomach problems all my life, but only got a diagnosis of hypermobility about 8 years ago, when my joint issues got a lot worse, forcing me to leave my teaching job. I'm now self-employed, working full time hours but with a mixture of working from home and a few hours tutoring clients each day. I've learned a lot of hard lessons along the way about managing my health, but I've also been super lucky to have a good support network around me. I manage my various conditions through a mix of medication, lifestyle changes, exercise, relaxation and pacing. In 2017 I developed additional pains in my shoulders and back, and started having foot problems, which a podiatrist tentatively diagnosed as fibromyalgia. That's now been confirmed by a rheumatologist. This blog is an opportunity for me to get my thoughts down and work through the challenges life throws my way. I've always found writing very therapeutic, and I hope that if you're reading this you'll find this record of my experiences helpful in your own life's journey. I travelled extensively in my teens and twenties, and you'll see photos I've taken on my travels peppered throughout my site. I stillt ravel, but whereas I used to fly all over the world and rough it in all manner of hostels I have to travel at a gentler pace these days. I'm interested in all sorts of things! I adore cats, I I love learning, and I'm always studying and reading. I study everything from humanities subjects like art history to science subjects like astronomy. Keeping my mind active is very important to me. I'm also a maker: I love yarn craft, particularly crochet, although I can also knit and used to cross stitch a lot. I also make dioramas, bake and paint a little. I met my Hubby through science fiction and fandom has been part of my life since before it was called fandom! I grew up with Doctor Who and Star Trek, and since then I've enjoyed all sorts of cult TV and film including Star Wars, The Expanse, Firefly, Back To The Future. I've discovered some really fun shows on Netflix including Leverage, White Collar, Scorpion and many other 'a team of clever people solve problems/fight crime' shows. I love clever comedies too: Frasier, The Good Place and The Thick Of It are favourites. Spirituality is very important to me. I was brought up as an Anglican Christian but now consider myself a Philosophical Taoist. If you'd like to get in touch you can find me on Twitter (@flowersstorms) or you can drop me an email: flowersstorms AT gmx DOT com. Looking forward to catching you 'round the internet! Sarah x
