Today I was looking forward to being productive and getting lots of little jobs done around the house, but the sweaty/buggy/headacheyness I started feeling a couple of days ago has reached a crescendo and I appear to be in what I now recognise to be a flare-up.
I've only recently been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, although I've suspected it for a while. It joins a list of chronic conditions that many spoonies will recognise: IBS, hypermobility syndrome, asthma, dodgy bladder..... I will write more fully about my spoonie experiences another day but not today because my brain is....bleurgh. Yep, the dreaded fibro fog. Even before I knew what fibro was I knew about the fog. I used to call it 'hyper haze' as I thought it was connected to my hypermobility. Maybe it was, and maybe it still is, but the more I read and learn about these chronic conditions the more I suspect that the various symptoms swish and swirl around our poor bodies, combining in a host of wonderfully weird ways and manifesting in a very unhappy Spoonie. Anyways, today is a day to be kind to myself. I've rearranged my schedule as much as I can, and am upping my fluids, resting and taking my meds and other pain relief measures (heat pad for my back, cold patch for my poor migraine-y head). With a bit of luck this will ease up sooner rather than later. Looks like I'm getting another reminder of the 'be kind to yourself' life lesson anyone with these conditions knows only too well.

I've been thinking about starting a website for a while. I've had a few, on and off, through the years, but now I seem to be moving into a new phase of my life and it seemed like a good time to start one again.
I've had a lot of health challenges over the last few years, and much of this blog will be about that. Writing is a form of therapy for me, and I know that there are many of us out on the web who like to express our thoughts in this form. But this blog won't just be about my health: looking up at the top of this page you'll see lots of different pages, all based around subjects I'm interested in. I've very active on Twitter, so you can always find me over there @flowersstorms. If not, leave a comment below. I'm looking forward to this new chapter. Sarah x |
